How the payback estimate is worked out For a representative 3 kW system at roughly ₹65,000/kW, less the ₹78,000 central subsidy (state top-ups not counted here, to stay conservative), against your state's sunlight and residential tariff band with ~90% of generation valued through self-use and net metering. Indicative only, a site visit and your actual bill confirm the real figure.

The fine print nobody reads. Read this.

Who actually qualifies. A residential consumer with their own electricity connection and roof rights, claiming once per household. The panels must be DCR, made with Indian cells, and on ALMM List-I; the inverter BIS-certified and on ALMM List-II; the installer registered on the national portal. Miss any one of these and the application dies quietly, usually after the money is spent. The subsidy arrives as a direct bank transfer only after the commissioning report and DISCOM inspection.

Documents to keep ready: a recent electricity bill where the name matches the applicant exactly, proof of ownership or roof rights, a cancelled cheque or passbook for the bank account, and a mobile number for portal OTPs. After installation, your vendor uploads the commissioning photos and report, but chase them, because the 30-day clock to your money starts only when they do.

Why applications get rejected. The recurring five: the name on the bill doesn't match the applicant; the panels turn out to be non-DCR imports; the vendor wasn't actually registered; the sanctioned load is smaller than the system (apply for load enhancement first); or there are pending dues on the connection. Every one of these is checkable before you sign anything.

Living in a society? Housing societies and RWAs can claim ₹18,000 per kW for common-facility systems, lifts, pumps, common lighting, up to 500 kW, calculated at 3 kW per flat. Individual top-floor owners with roof rights apply as normal households. Worth raising at the next association meeting; the paperwork runs through the same portal.

The honest timeline. The portal targets subsidy release within about 30 days of commissioning. In practice, expect two to eight weeks depending on how your DISCOM batches inspections. If it crosses two months, escalate through the portal's grievance option with your application ID, polite persistence works.
