How these assessments are made
We compare installer types rather than scoring individual companies, because installation quality in India is stubbornly local, the same national brand can be excellent in one city and mediocre two districts away, depending on the franchise crew actually on your roof. The price bands in the table are aggregated from published rate cards and real quotations collected across major metros in Q2 2026. Strengths and risks come from three sources: recurring complaint patterns in consumer forums and DISCOM grievance records, the structure of each business model (who does the work, who owns the warranty), and a close reading of standard contracts from each segment.
What we deliberately don't do: rate individual installers we haven't verified, or take payment for placement, no installer appears here commercially, and none saw this page before you did. Since we can't score the specific outfit quoting you, we built the next best thing below: a ten-point scorecard where every item is verifiable before you sign.
The choice that matters more than either brand.
An average panel installed well beats an excellent panel installed badly. India's installer market has three broad types:
| Installer type | Typical price | Strengths | Risks | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| National EPC brand | Highest | One accountable company end-to-end; systematised processes, documentation and warranty handling | Brand premium; less flexibility on component choice | Buyers who value certainty over the last 10–15% of price |
| Established regional installer | Middle | Usually the sweet spot: visitable portfolios, competitive pricing, owner-level accountability | Quality varies widely, reference checks are essential, not optional | Most households, after verifying 2–3 past installations |
| Local electrician-led outfit | Lowest | Cheapest quotes; sometimes perfectly competent | Structural work, earthing and DISCOM paperwork are where cheap installs fail; warranty support often evaporates | Only with strong personal references and your own component verification |
Non-negotiables, whoever you choose
MNRE empanelment (verify the registration number on pmsuryaghar.gov.in, without it you lose the subsidy). A written quote naming exact panel and inverter model numbers, not just brands. Structure warranty and wind-load spec in writing. Who files the net-metering application, named in the contract. At least two past customers you can actually call. Our 12-point quote checklist walks through it line by line.
